Good Reads-{charleston sc lowcountry moms}

This year, I’ve done quite a bit of reading. I usually find the time when I’m in my car waiting on one of my kids like in the carpool line. :O I get 30 solid minutes if I arrive at 3 ;). My daughter naps, & I bust out the books. On Tuesdays, I get almost 40 minutes while my daughter is in hip hop. My car is my cozy reading space :).

I’m all about a book that gets me motivated and inspires me. I love a good novel too, but right now my thing is books like these b/c I love how they make me feel.

I’ve always been business minded. When I get an idea, I begin to think of how I can turn it into a business. This began in 2008 when I opened my first business, A Tail Waggin’ Good Time-Pet Sitting Services. I loved that gig and it was a really great way for me to step into the world of entrepreneurship. I learned so much without having to invest a ton into starting a business.

These books below can apply to any aspect of your life. Whatever it is you do, be the very best at it. These books will make you want to be and who doesn’t love feeling inspired, refreshed & motivated!

My favorites this year have been these:

I love how she has stories from others. I can’t tell you how many lines I highlighted in this one. I love referring back to it from time to time.

Fave quotes:

“Accept your fate, but also know your life is what you choose to do with it. Take a deep breathe, it begins when you say”

“The beauty of life is that it’s your own, so dare to live it”

I say don’t worry about what others think of you or expect from you. Live your life the way you want to live it. If people don’t like the choices you make for you and your family, who cares, they’re not walking in your shoes, so live your life, design it how you want it to be.

This is a great book for creatives but you can apply what she says to whatever it is you do. My favorite quote from this book is this:

‘Everything has been done, but it has not yet been done by you’ Can I get an AMEN?

I love that b/c doesn’t it feel that way, like, all.the.time? But the good news is, no matter how many people have done what you’re setting out to do, not one single person has YOUR unique perspective and that’s what makes it worth doing, even though it’s already been done by many before you, it has never…been done by YOU!

This book is full of yellow high-lite and another that I pick up from time to time to read my favorite parts. I also plan to read this one again in the new year b/c it’s just that kind of ‘kick you in the behind’ book to jump start your year off right.

I’m currently reading this and almost done….

In this book, I’m enjoying lines like:

“Give yourself the gift of a joyous life while you’re still among the living”.

The author, Jen Sincero says things to remind us to take life by the horns. She says “what’s the point of living life without taking time for the things that inspire you” “Where’s the fun in waking up at 85 and realizing you couldn’t find the time to enjoy yourself.”

“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. If you’re not, you’ll find an excuse”. Yeah Pearl! Ain’t that the truth!

We’re always waiting on the right time to do this or that, but what’s wrong with now. How many of you felt 100% ready to have kids? No one, I’m sure, but you did it and everything turned out fine and here you are. There’s no 100% right time, so just go for things you want. Design your life!

I’m a big fan of Brene Brown books. I started with ‘Daring Greatly’ and quickly ordered this one as well b/c I enjoyed it so much. This one forces you to look within yourself and dig deep. I came to many realizations about myself after reading this one.

Some of my fave lines:

“This is who I am. This is where I am from. This is my mess. This is what it means to belong to myself”

“It’s easy to believe that we must exhale all the time, without ever inhaling. But the inhale is absolutely essential if you want to continue to exhale”

This is the kind of book that’s going to make you take a hard look at yourself and the way you treat others and yourself.

This one, Of Mess and Moxie is just one of those easy and fun reads. You’ll totally find yourself laughing and saying, YASSSS throughout this book. This book feels like you just sat with a girlfriend and had the best time.

I loaned this one to a friend so I can’t give you any lines from it as it’s not right in front of me, but it’s a goody, trust me.

Up Next…

I still need to order this one, but I will be reading this one this year.

This one is sitting in my pile to read next. 🙂

This one seems to have the same vibe as ‘you are a badass’ so I’m sure I’m going to love it.

What are you reading? Sound off in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.

So, fill your cart with some fun books and get your highlighter ready to go! 🙂
