One of my favorite sides of town is Avondale in West Ashley. I’ve just recently really experienced it from day to night too even though I’ve lived here in West Ashley for 11 years!
It’s also home to my quaint little studio on Daniel Street! 😉
My husband had a big milestone birthday recently so we had a night out in May to finally experience Avondales nightlife.
My suggestions for evening are Pearlz to eat, then cross the street to The Roost for some fun 90s music and dancing.(and I’m speaking for the 30+ crowd ;)…
Another great dining option that’s a bit more fancy (& you may not want to go dancing after you eat pasta) is Al Di La. It’s a quaint little italian restaurant in the heart of Avondale.
For day, you have endless options for dining:
..Go lite and have a salad at Verde
..Splurge on Pizza at Mellow Mushroom
..Coffee at Classic Coffee Roasters
..Enjoy dining outside and have a burger at Triangle
No matter where you have your main course, make sure you walk over to GALA for dessert! They actually have breakfast all day as well so you can do it all in one place if you wish. I love the vibe inside Gala. The lights, the gold chairs, the funky decor. I especially liked the people watching bar along their front window.
After you eat, do a little shopping too! The morning we went to Gala, we stopped in at the thrift store to just poke around. I ended up finding a few cool finds like the bathing suit wrap I wore on our Pawleys Trip. It was just someones old scarf, but it was long enough to use as a wrap around my swimsuit.
I also found the movie ‘Peter Pan’ & the ‘Rookie’, though I discovered the Peter Pan disc was missing from the box :/, but still, the rookie was such an amazing movie that I had been wanting to purchase. I couldn’t believe I found it at a thrift store.
Avondale is chock full of small businesses to discover. It’s also home to tons of wall murals that are fun to walk around & admire+make fun instagram photos ;)~!
The West Ashley greenway runs straight through neighborhood behind it, Byrnes Down, but the neighborhood itself is fun to walk through and look at some of the cute cottage style old homes.
Inside Gala. You might have seen some of these in my instagram story from earlier in June.
So, GO, spend a morning, a day, or an evening exploring this fun side of Charleston, just across the Ashley River from downtown Charleston.
