We have only ever visited the pumpkin patch side of Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, but finally on a free Sunday made the journey over the bridge and did an official tour.
The scenery is certainly something out of a movie.
You’re greeted by the avenue of oaks just dripping with bundles of spanish moss. I left my good camera at home so these are all cell phone shots, but they still showcase the grandness of the drive up.
We did the tractor tour where we found out you can actually go there and do u-pick in their fields for things like peppers, grapes, and even blueberries! We saw a beautiful full sunflower field and got a little peek at this years Halloween hay ride.
We were able to walk into each slave house and learn so much in each one.
My favorite part was the Gullah Theater where the speaker kept us laughing and engaged.
She had such a fun personality and she was very enjoyable to listen to as she shared her knowledge of the Gullah culture through songs, language and stories.
The cotton dock along the water was neat to see also and offered a nice cool breeze.
After walking through the first floor of the main home, we got to gander at the huge old live oaks along the water on the backside.
The oldest tree is the one we are standing in front of just below.
Check it out if you make it to Charleston.
I recommend both Boone Hall in Mount Pleasant along with Magnolia in West Ashley.
They are two very beautiful yet different properties on two different sides of town that should both be on your list if you’re visiting Charleston.
