Books with a Musical Background!
I find that I’m really drawn to books based on music and have read some really good ones lately.
I thought I’d create a list of some of them I’ve read +some that are in my TBR(to be read) list:
Don’t forget your book light as you dive into these!
The People We Keep:
Follow a girl and her guitar as she learns life lessons and finds her way to happiness.
“I wonder if maybe all you do is meet people and lose them and your smile fades the further you go because you have to carry the space they leave.
Maybe it all just turns into old pictures on a bookshelf, engraved rings, memories of sticking stars to a cieling, and maybe the space gets bigger and heavier every year”
Mary Jane:
I fell for the cover on this one, but it ended up being a lovely story about a young girl breaking away from the control of her mother as she came into her own babysitting for a family down the street and their famous house guests.
Daisy Jones and the Six:
If you haven’t heard of this one, you’ve been living under a rock. I loved the style of writing in this one(interview style).
“Music can dig, you know? It can take a shovel to your chest and just start digging until it hits something.”
“She was my aurora. She was my new dawn, my daybreak, my sun peeking over the horizon. She was all of it”
“Love is forgiveness and patience and faith and every once in a while, it’s a gut punch”
Heard It In A Love Song:
Follow a teacher and her guitar as she finds her love for it again while also looking for new love.
This one flashes between their old days and present but it’s a good balance and an overall feel good kind of book.
A Song for the Road:
I just picked this one up and have a feeling I will love it. I plan to start it in November.
Songs in Ursa Major:
70s music scene, love, drama, it has all the ingredients and I can’t wait to read.
Last Ride To Graceland:
A little Elvis, music and roadtrip, this one sounds so appealing to me.
On the Rooftop:
Jazz, musical dreams and the 1950s. Another on my TBR
